Community Outreach
Some of Unity of Fox Valley’s Community Outreach Activities. Nancy Baker is our Team Leader
Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans - On the first Thursday of each month volunteers from Unity of Fox Valley will be serving dinner at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Would you like to participate? Give us a call!
Street Ministry – We provide back packs filled with useful items to those in need. When the packs are assembled they will be given to anyone wishing to keep a backpack in their home or car. When you see a person in need, just give it to them. Trust in divine timing that it will be the right person at the right time. This quiet ministry doesn’t judge or preach. It’s just a gift.
Hesed House is a shelter for the homeless, a meal for the hungry, and clothing for the naked. It is a not-for-profit coalition of religious ministries serving the very poor in the Fox Valley area, and it is a place that gives people the chance to hope again. Members of Unity of Fox Valley volunteer hours to serve in their soup kitchen.
Humanitarian Service Project – Their mission “…to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty brings to needy seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois, without distinction of gender, race, creed, caste, or color.” We volunteer our time and treasures sorting Christmas gifts for children and collecting food for their “Feed the kids” programs.
Crop Walk – Crop Walk is neighbors and friends walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world. Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting. Unity of Fox Valley’s members participate every year – and on several occasions we were the highest church contributor in the Fox Valley area!
Bear Brigade – Each January or February members of our congregation collection new stuffed teddy bears and other fuzzy creatures and fill them with love and hugs in our sanctuary before they are delivered to a local senior care facility or children’s hospital.
Secret Stocking Stuffer – For ten consecutive years, Unity of Fox Valley has sponsored 40 to 50 people, representing multiple families, by providing Christmas gifts to those who might otherwise find their trees bare. This year we provided gifts for families from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Kane County.
Habitat for Humanity – Habitat partners with families and the community to create affordable, livable housing. Housing that we need to be a stable community. Housing that will offer a hand up, not a hand out. Our church members help with building these homes. (picture)
